Depois de três anos de uma briga entre a cidade de Florianópolis e o sistema de transporte coletivo, o governo decidiu pensar a sério - aparentemente - numa alternativa. O transporte público da capital catarinense depende hoje totalmente dos ônibus (com exceção de uma pequena comunidade da Costa da Lagoa, onde há um serviço público de barcos). Nos anos 1990, A prefeitura tentou implantar um sistema complementar de transporte marítimo - afinal a maior parte da cidade está instalada numa ilha. Mas o tal sistema não se viabilizou e, mesmo que tivesse sucesso, não resolveria os problemas de ineficiência do transporte municipal. De acordo com matéria publicada hoje no AN Capital, estudos para implantação de uma rede de veículos leves sobre trilhos (VLT, vulgo bonde), deve estar pronta até o fim do ano. Comum em cidades européias de porte médio, o bonde entraria em funcionamento, numa previsão otimista, em 2010.
